NEWS!

Ralph and I have not done a newsletter on this site before but we have a few new things going on so thought now would be as good a time as any to tell you about them…

As mentioned in this post here, I’ve had a few problems with paypal cancelling people’s subscriptions recently, and I know a lot of people are against using it and have asked if there’s an alternative for subs to the site, so I have now set up a GoCardless link as well as an alternative. Here are the links if you’d like to set up a monthly payment with GoCardless:

Level one payment plan (£1 per month)

Level two payment plan (£2 per month)

Level three payment plan (£5 per month)

Level four payment plan (£10 per month)

Level five payment plan (£20 per month)

Level six payment plan (£25 per month)

21st Century Yokel has now been out in the world for five months and has had some great reviews, including this one from The AV Club and this one from The Guardian. I always prefer that someone uses a purchase of the book to support an independent bookseller but I also understand hardbacks are expensive and sometimes people choose a more corporate retailer for budgetary reasons. There are a list of ways to purchase the book online here. It is also now out in the US and on audiobook (read by me). If you’d like to buy a copy directly from me I have just ordered a few from Unbound, which I can sign and send to you with a bookmark and one of a limited supply of random, one-off original pieces of artwork by my mum, Jo. For details of how to pay you just need to email me here.

My mum has been very prolific in the last year, and lots of her work is sold by Graffeg Books. She also often sells originals via her Etsy page.

My first ever fiction book Help The Witch is fully funded at Unbound (it broke their record for the fastest funding fiction title) but there’s still a fair bit of time to reserve a special edition with your name in the back. The book is nearing completion and will be out in autumn this year. You can read a little bit about some of my more “method” than expected research for it in this piece and this piece.

I’ll be doing quite a few talks at festivals this spring and summer. First of these will be at Chipping Norton Literary Festival on 27th April. Tickets can be purchased here. Others will include Derby Book Festival, Beaminster Festival, Port Eliot, Newark Book Festival and Tiverton Festival. I’ll be posting full details of these and more here soon.

I moved back to Devon, to the southern edge of Dartmoor, last month. One of the many joys of this is that it means I can soon revive my Soundart Radio show. There’ll be news on this very shortly but it will be an evening show, this time. You can listen to the archive of previous ones here. I am also planning to start doing some more storytelling walks on Dartmoor, having really enjoyed the one I did in autumn with pledgers for 21st Century Yokel.

Thanks for reading, and best wishes to everyone for the rest of 2018,
Tom

  1. Good news on all fronts but especially the move back to Devon. Really pleased to hear that. You were so clearly happy there and it's a lovely part of the world. Yeah.

  2. Great to hear that you'll be reviving the radio shows. I enjoy discovering new/old music through them whilst drawing at my desk and listening to your anecdotes, of course.

  3. Yay! So looking forward to the return of your radio show – have had withdrawal symptoms! Really looking forward to your new book as well. Might just have to join you again on another walk as I so enjoyed the last one.

  4. Thanks for the update, Tom, and the gorgeous pic of Ralphy Mittens 🙂 Very pleased to hear you're happy in Devon too. I'm 99% sure the Paypal thing works for me. I definitely see the deduction each month, so I hope it's going to you!!
    All the best from Oz,
    Christina.

  6. New to your books I have just read Close Encounters of the Furred Kind, loved it, made me laugh out loud. Our cat enjoyed the bits I read out to her too 🙂
